BSP offers Health and Wellness programs to service workers throughout California and offers comprehensive, linguistically and culturally competent training & education that equips workers from low-wage industries and their families to lead healthy lives.

Recently, Pedro, a property service worker in LA, became a Health Ambassador for BSP and was a crucial key player in disseminating health information to their peers as well as recruitment for our Health and Wellness program.

BSP’s Health Coordinator & instructor, who oversees the programs spent time guiding, coaching and providing Pedro with the tools to make him succeed in his role.

With Pedro’s help, BSP was able to recruit other participants to participate in NAMI’s 3K Walk which promoted physical & mental health.

Even with his shyness, Pedro practiced his public speaking skills speaking to more than 30 stewards during BSP’s  monthly Steward Council meeting, virtual health sessions, and other events. He transformed from someone who was afraid to talk to a leader who speaks up during class and motivates his peers to make healthy changes in their life.

As a result, he has become very knowledgeable about nutrition and mental health topics.

He supported others in understanding why their health is important and why they should adopt healthy behaviors, as well as helped build confidence among male workers to discuss health and wellness.

BSP’s curriculum educates participants on health literacy and offers health prevention information, ranging from diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, to stress management and mental health, with curriculum aimed at addressing the most pressing health concerns of workers and their families.

BSP health programs integrate a culturally relevant curriculum encompassing food selection and proper nutrition materials, helping workers and their families overcome barriers to healthy food options and education. BSP also hosts planned physical activities, such as group hikes, to promote the importance of exercise.

Congratulations to Pedro on his hard work and accomplishments!
