Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista
Thanks to the generous support of the Whaletail Grant California Coastal Commission , our community advancement program at our San Diego office brought together 22 participants and their families to the Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista. Families explored the aquarium and coastal exhibits, learning about San Diego’s watersheds, endangered habitats, and the connection between wetlands and the ocean.
Families and kids also had the opportunity to attend a hands-on compost demo, learning how composting works and how it benefits the environment. “I've never been here before, and I think I will get a family pass! I loved the compost demo and learning about the benefits of composting, especially how it helps our environment,” shared one participant. Another said, “It was great to connect what we learned at the bird-watching event to what we saw today; it really brought everything full circle.”
This activity was coordinated through our San Diego Community Advocate and Coordinator, aiming to increase educational access to outdoor spaces and provide experiences outside of work that support family connection and wellness.
We are so grateful to the Whaletail Grant and the Living Coast Discovery Center staff for making this memorable experience possible!
