Dept. Mayor Of Infrastructure Honored LA Janitors

In celebration of Earth Day 2023, the LA Deputy Mayor of Infrastructure, Randall Winston, presented frontline property service workers from Building Skills Partnership’s Green Janitor Education Program with a certification of recognition at the LA SEIU-USWW office on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Building Skills Partnership is a California statewide nonprofit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for property service workers from low-wage industries and their families by increasing their skills, access to education, and opportunities for career and community advancement.

Praised by California Governor Gavin Newsom, the Green Janitor Education Program is USGBC-LA certified, through which janitors are accredited in green building cleaning practices to help meet the latest energy, water, and environmental sustainability standards. Commercial buildings are leading contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption, and the janitors’ new skills help to reduce negative impacts on the environment.

BSP’s high-road programs are part of the
California Workforce Development Board’s High Road Training Partnership, which is funded through California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health, and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.
