Exploring Cabrillo National Monument with BSP’s Hiking Club

Exploring History and Nature with BSP’s Hiking Club

Through our Family Engagement and College Readiness (FECR) program, Building Skills Partnership hosted its second Hiking Club event at Cabrillo National Monument.

The day brought students and families together to enjoy the outdoors, while also deepening their understanding of American history and the impact of World War II in San Diego. For participants from our Citizenship class, the experience was especially meaningful—it connected their classroom learning to real-world stories of resilience, service, and community.

The Hiking Club is one of many ways FECR supports families as they learn together, strengthen connections, and build pathways toward higher education and lifelong success. By combining physical activity, cultural learning, and family engagement, the program creates unique opportunities for growth outside of traditional classroom walls.

We’re grateful for the support of the Whale Tail Grant from @thecaliforniacoast, which makes experiences like this possible. Together, we’re helping students and families explore, learn, and dream big.
