San Diego Summer Hike
On a beautiful summer day along the California coast, Building Skills Partnership (BSP) and SEIU-USWW brought together members, families, and allies for the San Diego Summer Hike—a community event that celebrated wellness, unity, and worker empowerment.
This energizing gathering was more than just a hike. It was an opportunity for BSP members to engage with local leaders, deepen community connections, and reaffirm the strength of collective action.
Special Thanks to Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe
We are especially grateful to Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe (@d4supmonica), who joined us and spoke directly to our SEIU-USWW members. Her presence and powerful words reminded us that when elected officials lead with heart, listen to the community, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with working families, real and lasting change becomes possible.
Her message of dignity, equity, and justice inspired everyone in attendance and served as a reminder of how impactful true representation can be.
Recognition of Our Community Leaders and Supporters
We were proud to be joined by public officials and representatives who continue to show their dedication to the wellbeing of essential workers:
Lucero Maganda, Acting Director of Community Engagement – Office of Mayor Todd Gloria (@mayortoddgloria)
Margaret Doyle, on behalf of Councilmember Jennifer Campbell (@jencampbelld2)
Their support reinforced the importance of civic leadership that engages directly with frontline communities.
Thank You to Our Sponsors
The success of this event was made possible thanks to the generosity of our sponsors:
🦷 Delta Dental (@deltadentalins)
🦷 Liberty Dental (@libertydentalplan)
Their commitment to community health and wellness ensured that our families could gather safely and joyfully for this day of connection and celebration.
Advancing BSP’s Mission Through Community Events
At BSP, events like the San Diego Summer Hike reflect our broader mission: to uplift immigrant workers and their families through wellness, leadership development, education, and civic engagement. Whether through health access, ESL and citizenship classes, or family engagement programs, we aim to meet workers where they are—with care and community at the center.
We’re proud to create moments like this that remind us what’s possible when partnerships thrive and workers are empowered.
Thank you to everyone who made the San Diego Summer Hike a meaningful and memorable day!
Let’s continue building community, raising voices, and walking toward a brighter, more equitable future.
