Los Angeles congressional field hearing examining the unlawful detention of U.S. citizens and the civil rights abuses committed by federal immigration agents.

Our BSP Executive Director, Luis Sandoval, and Director of Systems Change, Jose Mondragon Torres, joined leaders in Los Angeles for a congressional field hearing examining the unlawful detention of U.S. citizens and the civil rights abuses committed by federal immigration agents.

The hearing, led by Rep. Robert Garcia —Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform—brought together Mayor Karen Bass Democratic Members of the Oversight Committee, Members of Congress representing Los Angeles, local elected officials, immigration advocates, and labor and faith leaders.

Participants heard powerful firsthand testimonies from community members and local officials, including U.S. citizens who were wrongfully detained by ICE, underscoring the profound impact these enforcement practices have had across Southern California.

As an organization committed to the dignity, safety, and rights of property service workers—many of whom are immigrants—BSP believes that protecting civil rights is essential to protecting workers. We remain committed to standing with our labor partners and community allies to ensure every worker and every family is treated with humanity, respect, and
justice.
